Welcome to another Q&A session where I answer questions from you all on the internet.
Today's question is:
Tim's clear recommendation is to do the stairs at the same time as the floor whenever possible. This is especially important if staining is involved, so that all the colors match. Doing both together also means the crew is in the home one time rather than two, which matters because refinishing a floor often takes a week out of a homeowner's living space and is disruptive to their household. While adding the stairs will extend the timeline by a couple of days, Tim maintains it is best to do it all at once. His reasoning balances two priorities: achieving a consistent, color-matched finished result across the stairs and floors, and minimizing the total disruption to the homeowner by consolidating the entire job into a single visit rather than forcing them to clear out and accommodate the crew on two separate occasions.
Yes, I would always suggest, if it's possible, that we do the stairs at the same time as the floor. Especially if we're staining, just so all the colors match up. It's better that way because we're in your home one time, not two times. I mean, anytime you're refinishing a floor, it's taking a week out of your home a lot of the time, and it's disrupting your household. So if we can get it all done at the same time, that's better for everybody involved. The stairs will add a couple of days onto the total time, but it's best to just do it all at once rather than coming back later, disrupting your home a second time, and risking the colors not matching up perfectly between the stairs and the floor. So my advice is, if it's at all possible, do the stairs and the floors together in one visit and get it all behind you.
